Deep Dive: Woodland’s White Pages
Relax, take a nice breath, and join us as we go beneath the surface and uncover conversation treasures to bring up.
Back in the 1900s, and the Aughts and the Teens, our Boards of Directors gave each Member Household a printed directory every season. We relied on these beautiful booklets for accessing and sharing important stuff—and not just contact details. Before we had a Web site or a Facebook page, the directories were our information source for programs, events, news, histories, and trivia.
Check the booklet, and you’d see who could use a babysitter or a babysitting job. Take a look, and you’d find out whom to call if you were interested in joining the Ladies’ Bridge Club (Tuesdays at 1:00pm!) or the Couples’ Bowling League.
Browse, and you’d discover that lots of classes were available at the Club too. There were swimming lessons every summer, for sure, but members and staff have also offered everything from diving and tennis to kayaking and water ballet! And if you wanted to go to the Woodland Hills Christmas Party, or our annual Square Dance, the directory would help you connect.
Recently, members have expressed interest in bringing it back. We hear you! We’re glad to help folks reach one another if they choose to, so we've created an opt-in, online Membership Directory. All that’s required to participate is sharing your name and your email address. You’re welcome to share more about yourself, though, if you’d like!
Access to the Membership Directory is restricted to members who opt in by submitting our form. If you’d rather not participate, no problem! Unless you submit the form, none of your contact information will appear in the directory—not even your name.
Participating members are added on a rolling basis. After processing each form submission, we send the participating member an email message containing a link to a spreadsheet. That spreadsheet is the directory. (It’s not fancy but it’s functional!) By clicking their link, each participating member gains view-only access to the directory. Your link will only work when you're logged in to the email account associated with the address you’ve entered on our Membership Directory opt-in form.
Change your mind and opt out, or edit your contact information, at any time. Just use the “Edit response” link in the confirmation email message that you’ll receive from “forms-receipts-noreply@google.com” when you submit your opt-in form.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this installment of Deep Dive, our new history feature. We’d love it if you contributed. Longtime members, please tell us your stories. Share your photos and your fond memories.
